OKT congratulates our colleague Bob Rae, who is included in Canadian Lawyer’s list of “The Top 25 Most Influential 2014”.
Canadian Lawyer annually compiles a list of Canada’s most influential lawyers and jurists. Rae is included on the 2014 list, and as one of the Canada’s “Top 5 in Criminal Law / Human Rights Law”.
Canadian Lawyer notes, “The former premier of Ontario and MP for Toronto Centre is an aboriginal rights activist on a mission … Bob Rae has really moved beyond the political and is using his skill and knowledge in a new and important role.”
“I appreciate very much being in such distinguished company,” notes Rae. “It is a real pleasure to return to the practice of law with such outstanding colleagues and to be working in such a lively and vital field”.
The 2014 list is notable for the presence of several Aboriginal law practitioners amongst Canada’s most influential lawyers and jurists, reflecting the increasingly important role of Aboriginal issues in Canada’s current legal and social landscape. OKT commends our legal colleagues Jason Madden (recognized for his work to advance Metis rights), Murray Klippenstein (commended for his success in making companies accountable in Canadian courts for their violation of indigenous human rights outside of Canada) and Justice Murray Sinclair (Manitoba’s first Aboriginal judge, and the Chairman of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools).
