Christopher Evans

Chris Evans is an associate at OKT. He has represented Indigenous peoples since he was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2014. His litigation practice covers a broad range of areas with a focus on Aboriginal, environmental, and administrative law, including:

• Aboriginal rights and title
• Treaty rights
• The duty to consult and accommodate
• Regulatory processes and environmental assessments for pipelines, mines, oil sands facilities, and other resource development projects
• The Indian Act
• Governance matters such as land codes, membership codes, election codes, and on-reserve housing
• Real property matters on- and off-reserve

Chris also has experience involving the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, including:

• Acting as counsel to the Petitioner Trevor Loke in Loke v British Columbia (Minister of Advanced Education), a challenge to the accreditation of the TWU law school
• Acting as counsel to the Plaintiff BobbyLee Worm in Worm v Canada, a challenge to federal solitary confinement laws
• Publishing “Adjudicating Contested Values: Freedom of Religion and the Oakes Test,” (2013) 10 Journal of Law and Equality 5

Chris is not the same Chris Evans who plays Captain America, but he did feature as an extra in the under-appreciated Bollywood film Lafangey Parindey.
