OKT (in conjunction with the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation) is proud to announce the “As Long As the Rivers Flow: Coming Back to the Treaty Relationship in Our Time” conference, featuring speakers Archbishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa, Chief Allan Adam from ACFN, and the Honourable Bob Rae, partner at OKT. The conference will take place in Fort McMurray on May 31 and June 1.
Bringing together moral and political leaders, traditional knowledge holders, scientists, and legal specialists, the conference will provide those attending with the opportunity to seriously examine how to protect Treaty rights under threat from resource development across Canada, with a particular focus on what is happening in the Treaty 8 territory. What would economic development that is respectful of Treaty rights look like? What is the ‘modern face’ of Treaty rights? What is our vision for how Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Canadians can live together under our mutual Treaty relationship, for “as long as the rivers flow?”
Join us for an exciting, provocative and practical exploration of these issues. Space is limited to 200 attendees and there will be high demand for this conference. Protect your spot now by registering at www.aslongastheriversflow.com! If you are unable to attend in person, please also consider joining us for the interactive webcast, also available from the same website.
For additional details, contact Matt McPherson at conference@oktlaw.com. Please direct media enquiries to Eriel Deranger at eriel.deranger@acfn.com
