Yesterday marked the launch of the We Matter Campaign, a national multimedia campaign that gathers positive messages directed at Indigenous youth who may be going through a difficult time. The devastating news of multiple youth suicides in Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan serves as a reminder of the importance of support and community to youth experiencing depression and other issues. We Matter provides a forum for people to share videos, poetry, artwork, and stories that will provide positive messages of hope to Indigenous youth. The site already features videos from important Indigenous role models such as electronic artists A Tribe Called Red, author Joseph Boyden, child and youth advocate Cindy Blackstock, and comedian Don Burnstick. There are also supportive and positive messages from Indigenous youth, elders, and residential school survivors.
OKT is proud to have participated in this important campaign and initiative as a pro bono service sponsor.
Please spread the word about the We Matter website and let youth in your community know that it is there. We encourage people to watch the videos, view the art and stories, and to share their own.
