Julia Brown

Julia Brown is an associate at OKT.  She has a broad litigation and negotiation practice, focusing on Aboriginal and treaty rights; the duty to consult and accommodate; administrative law; and human rights law. Julia has appeared before courts and administrative tribunals in several Canadian jurisdictions, including at the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Prior to joining OKT, Julia practiced at a leading litigation firm in Toronto and in the legal aid clinic system.  

Julia holds a J.D. from the University of Western Ontario, where she won awards for advocacy and academic excellence.  While in law school, Julia worked with Community Legal Services, a student legal aid clinic, and was a Managing Editor of the University of Western Ontario Journal of Legal Studies. 

Julia is a member of the Ontario bar. 

Representative Work

  • Represented Innu Nation at the Commission of Inquiry Respecting the Muskrat Falls Project. 
  • Represented the Chiefs of Ontario before the Supreme Court of Canada to advocate for reduced barriers to accessing litigation funding for s. 35 cases. 
  • Represented Innu Nation, Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation and Mushuau Innu First Nation in an injunction application to prevent the Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada from concluding a financial restructuring agreement relating to the Muskrat Falls Project without first consulting and accommodating the Innu of Labrador.
