OKT is pleased to announce that John Olthuis has been appointed as Member of The Order of Canada. This honour, one of the highest in the country, is a testament to John’s exceptional dedication and extraordinary contribution to the pursuit of seeking justice for Indigenous peoples across Canada.
John is one of the founding partners of OKT and has represented First Nations throughout Canada in inquiries, litigation matters and in major negotiations going as far back as the inquiry in the 1970’s into the proposed Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, and in the development of constitutional provisions, legislation and federal policy regarding indigenous peoples. His work includes negotiating modern treaties, self-government agreements, and impacts and benefits agreements with project proponents.
The Order of Canada is a recognition reserved for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to our country, symbolizing one of the highest accolades attainable by Canadians.
Congratulations John for this truly remarkable achievement.
