Mattagami First Nation has launched a lawsuit against CN Railway for damages caused by two separate train derailments near Gogoma, Ontario. The derailments, which occurred in February and March 2015, caused millions of litres of crude oil to spill into nearby lands and the local watershed. The oil spills have caused extensive damage to Mattagami First Nation’s territory, and compromised the ability of Mattagami First Nation members to exercise their aboriginal and treaty rights.
