We are delighted to welcome these outstanding lawyers as partners. They have each developed their expertise and professional approach to advancing the rights of Indigenous people and have consistently demonstrated a dedication to excellence and social justice.
OKT’s new partners span the firm’s practice areas representing Indigenous communities across the country. Our new partners are:
Cathy Guirguis. Cathy’s practice is focused on litigation and negotiations related to Aboriginal and treaty rights, including the duty to consult and accommodate. She also has built expertise advising her First Nation clients on status and membership issues, employment and human resource matters, and governance administration.
Senwung Luk. Senwung’s practice is focused on representing clients in Aboriginal rights (including title) litigation, and treaty rights litigation, with an emphasis on resolving historical land disputes. He also advises his First Nation clients in negotiations and litigation arising from the duty to consult and accommodate Aboriginal communities.
Oliver MacLaren. Oliver leads the corporate practice group at OKT. He represents First Nation clients on a number of commercial transactions, including the financing of equity interests in resource, renewable energy, and electricity projects. He also advises his First Nation clients on corporate governance, joint ventures, and business opportunities arising from the negotiation of impact benefit agreements.
Matthew McPherson. Matt’s practice is focused on litigation and negotiation, advising First Nations on the duty to consult and accommodate, Aboriginal title and rights, and treaty rights. Matt also negotiates on behalf of First Nations in the area of resource development agreements and treaty implementation matters.
