Emily Otowadjiwan is Anishinaabe and a member of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, she also has close ties to Nipissing First Nation. Both communities are located in Northern Ontario.
Emily is a summer student with OKT. She has completed her first year at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Emily is a member of the Indigenous Law Student Association and has volunteered with the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights as a part of a public interest working group.
Emily graduated from Nipissing University with distinction. She holds a BA double major in Indigenous Studies and Political Science alongside a minor in Gender, Equality, and Social Justice. While at Nipissing University, Emily volunteered with the Peer2Peer mentorship program. She also regularly worked in Peer Mentorship roles helping to facilitate the Summer Indigenous Institute, as well as working as a Peer Tutor throughout the academic years.
Each role allowed Emily to provide meaningful academic, cultural, and social support to fellow Indigenous students and she is very grateful for the experience.
Emily plans to continue work within Indigenous law as she moves forward in law school and into the future.
